Network cabinets are used to combine installation panels, plug-ins, plug-in boxes, electronic components, devices and mechanical parts and components to form an integral installation box. It consists of a frame and a cover (door), generally has a rectangular shape, and is placed on the ground. Network cabinets are very important components in modern computer network environments and are the first-level assembly second only to the system level.

There are various structural and functional designs inside the network cabinet. For example, it is equipped with various cable management troughs, cable management racks, cable management boards and wiring channels, which can facilitate wiring management. The cabinet should have good technical performance, and its structure is based on the electrical and mechanical properties of the equipment and the requirements of the use environment. The necessary physical and chemical designs are carried out to ensure that the structure of the cabinet has good rigidity and strength, as well as good electromagnetic isolation, grounding, noise isolation, ventilation and heat dissipation. It should also have anti-vibration, anti-impact, corrosion resistance, dustproof, waterproof, radiation-proof and other properties to ensure that the equipment works stably and reliably.

Most of the early network cabinets were made of castings or angle steel connected or welded into a cabinet frame by screws, rivets, and then covered with a cover (door) made of thin steel plate. However, this type of cabinet is large, heavy and simple in appearance, and has been eliminated. The current network cabinet has developed into a plug-in box and plug-in structure with a certain size series. The assembly and arrangement of the plug-in box and plug-in are divided into horizontal arrangement and vertical arrangement. The materials generally use thin steel plates, steel profiles of various cross-sectional shapes, aluminum profiles and various engineering plastics. In addition to welding and screw connection, the frame also uses bonding technology.

In terms of type, network cabinets include server cabinets, wall-mounted cabinets, network cabinets, standard cabinets, intelligent protection outdoor cabinets and other types. It differs from the server cabinet in terms of function and size. The server cabinet is used to install standard equipment and non-standard equipment such as servers, monitors, UPS, etc., and has requirements in terms of depth, height, load-bearing capacity, etc. The width is generally 600mm and the depth is generally above 900mm. Due to the large heat dissipation of the internal equipment, the front and rear doors are equipped with ventilation holes. The network cabinet is mainly used to store network equipment and accessories such as routers, switches, and patch panels. The depth is generally less than 800mm, and the width is 600mm and 800mm. The front door is generally a transparent tempered glass door, and the requirements for heat dissipation and environment are not high.
